2 airlines, 7 burgers and 13 hours in a car later | Southern California Travel Diaries

May 16, 2018

On January 31st of last year, I published a blog post titled “from Goal-setter to Go-getter” where I shared both personal and business goals for 2017 (you can view it here!)  One of those top goals for me was to travel more. Traveling has been on my heart for years, but last January, I sat down and decided write the action step: “plan 3 trips in 2017” and posted it to the live web to hold myself accountable. I didn’t know particularly *where* I would be headed, but knew that I wanted to take the leap of proactively seeking out new experiences in 2017!

Those 3 trips ended up taking me to: Hawaii, Israel and California! (still amazed at how each trip came into being) Dear future Hans, If you’re reading this in 2019 I *really* hope you have already checked off your next 3 bucket list-ers: Australia, New Zealand, and Greece..fingers crossed, ya know!!

Something I’ve learned about myself through traveling has been my highlight from each trip has to do with the people I encounter. Whenever I stepped out of my comfort zone, engaged with people I didn’t know, listened to their story, or giggled with them while simultaneously getting dance lessons on the streets of Laguna, (don’t worry we got a video! ;))  always ended up being the greatest treasures I brought home with me.

During our stay in California we filled our days exploring the coast all the way from San Diego up north to Malibu. We drove over a thousand miles, made two trips to LA, and checked off as many places as we could in a short week’s stay. I could probablyyy load this blog post with story-after-story from our time here, but i’ll spare you and narrow it down to just a few of my favorite memories!

  • being apart of the live audience for Dr. Phil!! (4:00 am wake-up call, 3+hrs of driving through LA in the rain, and worth it nonetheless!)
  • getting to photograph a incredible couple at sunset cliffs (VIEW HERE)
  • my first IN & OUT Burger experience!
  • roaming through the beverly hills hotel and literally tearing up at how beautiful the bathrooms were (LOL)
  • exploring all the cute coffee shops SoCal had to offer (endless)
  • spending time with our incredible host, Joelle who blessed us beyond measure!! highlight of my day was sharing our recap of the day on the pull out bed over take-out and giggling endlessly

Browse on through for more of the adventure!

welcome to california where every coffee shop feels like a fairytale

if you are ever in San Diego you MUST visit the cutest little shop called Pigment! so amazing!!!

Threw the LA LA Land playlist on and danced along the streets like we were emma stone & ryan gosling  (very casually screaming: “TOURISTS”)

Meredith and I keep a running tally of VW vans and have made a tradition of pulling off to the side of the road and snapping a pic any time we spot one. I think this pastel blue is my favorite yet!

say hello to the home of my DREAMS (with record breaking cute plants gracing the front yard, need I say more..)

Love me some La Jolla !!!!

Laguna Beach

I’ll be honest with you: never used to understand the Tiny homes hype…but then this little cutie stopped me in my tracks & now I think I’m sold. also 100% love the idea of parking your home across the street from the Malibu Pier!! definitely could agree with that lifestyle!

my mom saw this and thought I had ordered a pumpkin… then continued to ask if I ate the whole thing……..the answer is yes, and probably in record time. This Guacamole GF + Bacon burger changed my life.

El Matador

and of course a few iphone shots for old times sake! 😉

you knowww 11 year old Hans would have been beside herself being on the Santa Monica pier channeling her inner Hannah Montana!! you get the besttttt of BOTH worlds, chill it out take it slow, then you rock out the show! (lol ok I promise i’m finished)

Have still yet to find Lemonade this good here in Virginia (but dedicated to the pursuit)

this was snapped the very last night of our trip after our farewell dinner (best tacos san diego had to offer) and the best host who blessed us beyond measure. Love you so much Joelle!!!!! what a gift your friendship has been <3

Xoxo,

Hannah
