What engagement sessions are REALLY like

There are endless benefits to engagement sessions. I am always encouraging my clients to take advantage of this complimentary part of their wedding experience and here is why:

You get to brush off the jitters & learn my posing approach that ensures that you are comfortable & confident when I am photographing you and your boo on your big day. This is also the main (if only) time before the wedding day where I get to spend quality time with my couples and really get to know one another!

I love capturing your REAL life.

I love capturing your personalities + quirks and what makes your relationships so beautiful.

My overall goal is to create an environment that is fun + stress free and results in natural portraits that are authentic to you! Portraits of you flirting with your fiance, biking (yes it’s been done and was amazing), dancing, laughing together! (but most likely @ me bc I will do whatever it takes to evoke that beautiful laugh of yours)

The truth is your photo experience SHOULDN’T feel stiff, overly serious or leave you feeling stressed!

Engagement sessions can be the highlight of your wedding planning & SHOULD be one of the most fun experiences with your photographer before the big day! You get to take a break from all of the planning and just be your in-love selves ready for a good time and the rest I have got covered! 😉

So, now that we have that covered here are some of my favorite tips to set you up for a successful session:

1. Come to your session READY to have fun. Seriously this one is a game changer! This might sound like a no-brainer but I truly believe You determine the results of your experience based off of your attitude, and if you go into your session with a bad mood this will definitely effect the outcome of your portraits

2. BE OPEN to ideas and be ready for an adventure! As a photographer a major part of my posing strategy has to do with providing prompts that lead my couples into a pose. This results in true genuine moments of my couples having fun and give room for their personalities to shine through! Some activities I will have them do: race up a hill, frolic through the fields, slow dance along the pier, whisper secrets into each others ear etc. I am always having my clients DOING something and it always evokes raw emotion that reflects so beautifully in their gallery of images.

3. PERSONALIZE your session! don’t be afraid to make it your own! seriously, one of my favorite things is when my clients add things to their session that are meaningful to their relationship. Like a pizza picnic in the woods or shooting their E-session at their first date spot! I am always excited to hear your ideas!

& Last but not least!

4. Engagement STYLE:

One of my most frequently asked question I get from my clients are “Hannah, what should I wear to my session?! help a sister out!” I would say my best tip of advice would be coordinate, DON’T MATCH. Wear clothes that you will be comfortable wearing. Choice an outfit that displays your style. If you are a laidback denim jacket and fresh kicks type of couple, WEAR THEM. If you like to dress to the nines, ain’t nobody stopping you! I love showcasing these details!! rock it out friend!
